5 Building Blocks of a Lasting Christian Marriage

5 Building Blocks of a Lasting Christian Marriage

Many Christian marriages fail and divorce rate among Christians is high, too. Does this fact shock you? Well, it doesn’t surprise us that Christian marriages suffer more than non-Christians.

Many of us don’t understand what it means to be in a Christian marriage. Aside from God’s guidance, Christian marriage entails a lot of work. So, we decided to come up with the five building blocks that are crucial in making a Christian or any marriage for that matter.

Surrender to One Another

When you and your spouse were enjoined in the altar, God gave you five responsibilities. These responsibilities are also the building blocks for a relationship that lasts. The first one is to surrender to one another. Christian marriage requires you to submit to your spouse 100%. You are required to serve your partner throughout the marriage. There should also be a give and take relationship.

Unconditional Love

When you said those wedding vows, you have the divine calling to love your spouse unconditionally. No conditions should be involved. Learn to love your spouse’s flaws, even if these flaws irritate you sometimes. There’s also this thing called compromise. Loving someone means doing your best to become better for your partner.

Respect and Trust

Aside from unconditional love, respect is an essential building block. Many people give their respect to others with conditions. In a Christian marriage, it doesn’t work that way. You give your respect and believe in your spouse despite his or her shortcomings. These shortcomings refer to minor offenses or flaws that your spouse commits.

Loyalty and Faithfulness

With respect, a husband and a wife should be loyal and faithful to one another. Yes, you give out respect unconditionally, but it doesn’t cover when one partner isn’t loyal and faithful in a relationship.

To solve this dilemma, each partner has the divine duty to be faithful to his or her spouse. Loyalty and faithfulness preserve the integrity of Christian marriage. This critical aspect of a Christian marriage creates the foundation of a lasting relationship.

Marriages undergo many trials, but strong ones prevail. Why? Because they decided to commit to one another. See, what word we used? Indeed, commitment is a decision. It’s not an emotional feeling. It is beyond the feelings of falling in love for the first time.

When you decide to become committed, over time, your spouse reciprocate the feelings. However, it doesn’t mean that you forget the activities you did when you weren’t married yet. Go on a date night or pursue your spouse. These things foster romantic feelings.

Final Words

Christian marriage requires commitment, unconditional love, respect, and trust. You also need to be faithful and loyal to maintain the integrity and sanctity of marriage. Most importantly, put God in the center of your relationship. If there’s someone as the third wheel, it should be God. With His guidance and enlightenment, your Christian marriage will be fruitful and will last the test of time.
